Full Attack

2 - 1 - 3 Formation

When to use: Use when your opposition has a weaker defence and you want to "Run them ragged". Stretch their players wide and keep switching positions, keep passing and moving.

What it does: Will ensure your opposition are dragged out of position, creating direct opportunities and openings for you.

Passing Style: Quick, direct and true.

Weakeness: Predictable, easy to read and few surprises

Strengths: Assured goals

Defensive play

3 - 2 - 1 Formation

When to use: This is an essentially defensive tactic, use when your oppononents are heavy in midfield or you are protecting what result you have gained.

What it does: defensive tactic in which a solid defence is assured as there will always be three defenders left to protect your keeper.

Passing Style: Using long ball tactics and the front man to hold up the ball works well here.

Weakeness: Few goals and could drain your energy, keeps pressure on your team

Strengths: Assured to frustrate your opposition

 

Pressure play

2 - 2 - 2 Formation

Why Use It: .Use when you have total confidence in your attacking ability. Extremely effective against a weaker defence and midfield.

What it does: This is an offensive style of defence, Win the ball, mantain possession as quickly and as close to the opposition’s goal as possible.

Passing Style: Apply direct, intense passing pressure on any opponent when you have the ball, ensure other team members push up in support.

Weakeness: Risk of being caught out of position

Strength: Grinding down your opposition

Counter attack

3 - 2 - 1 Formation

Why use it: Use to create direct attacking situations from a strong back line.

What it does: Allows your opposition to come well within your back third of the pitch, ensure to work to regain possession quickly.

Passing Style: Immediately make a long direct pass, by-passing the midfield, At the moment of passing, one or two playes should assist in attack.

Weakeness: This may keep unessessary pressure on your defence

Strength: Quick, direct and unpredictable

Possession Football

2 - 1 - 3 FormatIion

When to use: Use when you want to build steadily from the back and without losing possession. Make the ball your own and use lots of movement to retain it.

What it does: Builds play whilst always moving forward and creates opportunities to find that "killer pass" through your oppositions back line. Steadily push forward and try to control the game in your oppositions last third of the pitch.

Passing Style: Concentrated steady and accurate

Weakeness: Dangerous if you lose possession whilst out of position

Strength: Will drain your oppositions energy and open up space
